Microsoft is now rolling out Windows 11 build 27802 in the Canary Channel of the Windows Insider Program. This update includes a new option to show battery percentage in the Taskbar alongside a new icon design for the battery. The Taskbar also adds a new Share option for Jump List, and the Windows Spotlight icon for the desktop gets some minor tweaks.
This release also includes several fixes for crashes in the File Explorer, Taskbar, Lock Screen, Administrator Protection, audio, Remote Desktop, and more.
Windows 11 build 27802 (Canary)
These are the changes rolling out in the latest preview of Windows 11 in the Canary Channel.
Battery Percentage and new icons
Starting on build 27802, Windows 11 introduces the new setting to show the battery percentage in the Taskbar, which is a feature independent of the battery icon.
This release also ships with new iconography for the battery icon to better inform you about the battery status. For example:
- Green: Indicates the computer is currently charging and the battery is in good condition.
- Yellow: Signifies that the device is running on battery power and has entered “energy saving mode.” This mode automatically activates when the battery level drops to 20% or lower to conserve power.
- Red: Warns of a critically low battery. It’s crucial to plug in the PC immediately to prevent unexpected shutdowns.
Taskbar with Share option
Windows 11 build 27802 is adding a new option to share files in the context menu from Taskbar. This means that when right-clicking an app in the Taskbar, the Jump List will also include a “Share this item” option for recent files.
Desktop Spotlight with new interaction
You can now easily discover more information by hovering over the Desktop Spotlight icon or clicking the “Learn about this picture” icon.
Other fixes and improvements
This update fixes several bugs for devices enrolled in the Dev and Beta Channels:
- File Explorer: Corrected rendering issues when restoring minimized File Explorer windows.
- Taskbar: Updated spacing for date and time on multi-monitor setups.
- Input: Fixed problem where custom mouse cursor colors from reverting to white during UAC prompts.
- Lock Screen: Fixed a crash when clicking “sign-in options” on the login screen.
- Administrator Protection: Resolved errors and improved functionality of the feature in Windows Security.
- Audio: Fixed an audio crash affecting a small number of users.
- Remote Desktop: Corrected a black screen issue after local sign-in following Remote Desktop usage.
- Other: Addressed various system stability issues, including Blue Screen of Death and SFC errors.
Finally, the company also notes a few known issues for gaming, printing, power, search, and Hyper-V.
Installation process
To download and install this Windows 11 build, enroll your device in the Canary Channel through the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section. Once you enroll the computer in the program, you can download the build from the “Windows Update” settings by turning on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option and clicking the “Check for Updates” button.
