  • Windows 11 build 27891 is now available in the Canary Channel, focusing on fixes and system improvements.
  • This update removes the deprecated PowerShell 2.0 from the operating system and addresses issues with File Explorer, Task Manager, audio, system recovery, and more.

Microsoft is currently rolling out Windows 11 build 27891 in the Canary Channel, but instead of new features, the company is focusing on addressing several issues, and starting with this release, it’s removing the legacy version of PowerShell from the operating system.

According to the official release notes, build 27891 removes PowerShell 2.0 from the operating system.

For context, Windows 11 includes PowerShell 5.1 by default, and PowerShell 7 is the new, cross-platform successor. Although it was previously possible to enable and use PowerShell 2.0, it has been deprecated for some time.

In addition to these changes, it has been discovered that Microsoft is working to bring new battery icons with colors to the Lock Screen, located at the bottom-right corner. If you want to enable this feature, you’ll have to use the ViveTool and run the vivetool /enable /id:55648925,55467432,56328729 command.

This change is not only available in the Canary Channel, but in the other channels as well.

Fixes and changes

In addition, this flight pushes several new fixes and changes for devices enrolled in the Canary Channel.

  • File Explorer: Fixed a visual bug where the folder path dropdown menu was cut off and partially inaccessible.
  • Settings: Fixed crashes when accessing microphone properties and Bluetooth-related launch issues.
  • Windowing: Minimize animations now display correctly.
  • Task Manager: Improved CPU performance metrics and resolved display errors in the System Idle Process.
  • Audio: Restored system sound effects (like alerts and volume slider sounds) when general audio was unaffected.
  • Recovery: Resolved broken “Reset this PC.”
  • Taskbar: Fixed missing acrylic material on the taskbar.

Additionally, this update addressed font corruption in app menus and unusual character display in Word. Playback controls in Media Player no longer appear distorted. LDAP query performance improved, and print previews now render clearly without blurriness.

Installation process

To download and install this Windows 11 build, enroll your device in the Canary Channel through the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section. Once you enroll the computer in the program, you can download the build from the “Windows Update” settings by turning on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option and clicking the “Check for Updates” button.
