Microsoft is testing a new “Ask Copilot” experience that replaces the Windows Search experience in the Taskbar with Copilot on Windows 11, and in this guide, you’ll learn the steps to enable or disable the feature.

Starting with builds 26220.7051 and 26120.7051 in the Dev and Beta Channels, Windows 11 introduces a new “Ask Copilot” experience in the Taskbar, which allows you to use AI for searching files, settings, and apps, as well as virtually anything else, and you can also access Copilot Vision and Voice.

Currently, this is an opt-in feature, meaning that the company will continue to offer the same Windows Search box experience in the Taskbar. However, you can turn on the new Ask Copilot feature to replace the existing experience.

The company is gradually rolling out the new features, but if you don’t have the new design, you can enable it manually using ViveTool (via @PhantomOfEarth).

In this guide, I’ll outline the steps to enable the Ask Copilot search box on Windows 11.

To enable the new Windows 11 Start menu, follow these steps:

  1. Open the GitHub website.

  3. Double-click the zip folder to open it with File Explorer.

  4. Click the Extract all button.

    Extract ViveTool zip file

  5. Click the Extract button.

  6. Copy the path to the folder.

  7. Open Start.

  8. Search for Command Prompt, right-click the top result, and select the Run as administrator option.

  9. Type the following command to navigate to the ViveTool folder and press Enter:

    cd c:\folder\path\ViveTool-v0.x.x

In the command, remember to change the path to the folder with your path.

  10. Type the following command to enable the Ask Copilot search box in the Taskbar and press Enter:

    vivetool /enable /id:57739723,57941090
  11. Restart the computer.

Once you complete the steps, you’ll find the option to opt in to the feature.

You can also use the vivetool /enable /id:57739723,57941090 command to disable the Ask Copilot search box on versions 25H2 and 24H2.

Turn on Taskbar Ask Copilot feature on Windows 11 (Settings)

To replace the Windows Search box with the new Ask Copilot experience, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings.
