- Notepad table support arrives in Notepad version 11.2510.6.0 for Windows 11, adding an insert Table toolbar and Markdown-compatible tables.
- To add a table in Notepad, open the app, choose the “Table” button on the formatting toolbar, or use “Insert table,” pick rows and columns, then insert and edit via the “Table” menu or context menu.
On Windows 11, the Notepad app includes support tables similar to features available in Microsoft Word, and in this guide, I’ll outline the steps to get started with this feature.
Starting with version 11.2510.6.0 (through the Windows Insider Program), Microsoft is expanding its lightweight formatting to include support for tables, meaning that you can now insert basic tables to help you structure your notes.
In this guide, I’ll outline the easy steps to get started with table support for Notepad for Windows 11.
Create tables in Notepad for Windows 11
To create a table in Notepad, follow these steps:
-
Open Notepad.
-
Click the Table menu.
-
(Option 1) Select the columns and rows to create a table.

-
(Option 2) Click the Insert table option.

-
Select the number of columns and rows.
-
Click the Insert button.
Once you complete the steps, you can start adding data to the table.
In addition, this implementation includes some editing options. For example, in the table’s menu, the “Editing table” submenu provides options to insert columns and rows, select and delete tables, and adjust column widths to fit the window.

Alternatively, you can insert tables directly using Markdown syntax. You can always create a table using the formatted view and then switch to the Markdown view to learn the syntax.

As part of this update, Microsoft also notes that the features Write, Rewrite, and Summarize have been improved for Copilot+ PCs, so results appear immediately without waiting for a complete response.
The new Markdown support for creating tables is available starting with Notepad version 11.2510.6.0 for devices running the latest preview of Windows 11 through the Windows Insider Program. However, it’s unclear when the support will roll out to everyone.
