  • To enable the new Run dialog on Windows 11, use ViveTool to activate the hidden feature code manually.
  • Open Command Prompt as administrator, navigate to the ViveTool folder, and run the vivetool /enable /id:58381341,58527096,57156807,57259990 command.

On Windows 11, the Run dialog is getting a new design treatment after more than three decades, and you can enable the early preview of the new updated version of the feature, and in this guide, I’ll show you how to complete this configuration.

The Run box is one of the oldest and most recognizable elements in the operating system. Technical users typically rely on it daily through the “Windows key + R” keyboard shortcut. However, the feature’s appearance has changed little since its original release, but soon, Microsoft will introduce a new version with a modern design.

The modern design of the Run dialog is still in development in the latest preview of Windows 11 in the Dev and Beta Channels, but you can enable it manually with the ViveTool.

In this guide, I’ll outline the steps to enable the new dialog design on your Windows 11 setup.

FAQs about the new Run dialog on Windows 11

Here are answers to common questions about the new Run dialog on Windows 11.

What is the new Run dialog in Windows 11?

The new Run dialog is a redesigned version of the classic Run box that has been part of the operating system for more than 30 years. Microsoft is updating its visual style to better align with the modern Windows 11 design language while preserving core functionality.

Is the new Run dialog officially released?

No. The modern Run dialog is still under development and is currently hidden in preview builds of Windows 11 available through the Dev and Beta Channels. It is not enabled by default and may change before a public release.

Why do I need ViveTool to enable it?

Microsoft often ships new features in preview builds in a disabled state. ViveTool lets you manually enable these hidden feature IDs for testing before Microsoft enables them more broadly.

Is it safe to use ViveTool?

ViveTool is widely used by Windows enthusiasts and testers, but it is not an official Microsoft tool. While generally safe when used correctly, enabling hidden features can cause instability, bugs, or unexpected behavior. It is recommended to use it only on test or non-production systems.

What do the ViveTool feature codes enable for the new Run?

The feature codes 58381341, 58527096, 57156807, 57259990 correspond to different components of the new Run dialog experience. All of them are required for the redesigned interface and the Settings toggle to appear.

Can I disable the new Run dialog and revert to the classic version?

Yes. You can disable the feature using ViveTool by running the corresponding /disable command with the same feature codes. After restarting, Windows 11 will revert to the classic Run dialog.

Does the new Run dialog change how Run works?

No. The functionality remains the same. You still open it with “Windows key + R” and use it to launch commands, apps, folders, and system tools. The update focuses on visual design and integration with Windows 11 settings rather than new capabilities.

Will this feature be available in the stable version of Windows 11?

Microsoft has not confirmed a release timeline. As with many preview features, it may be refined, delayed, or removed entirely before reaching the stable channel.
