Microsoft has released Windows 11 build 28020.1495 (KB5074168) in the Windows Insider Program for devices enrolled in the Canary Channel, with one new visual change, several fixes, and known issues, as part of the version 26H1 development.
According to the official changelog, “Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (28020.1495)” includes general fixes and improvements to enhance the overall experience, and the desktop watermark should now display the correct build number.
Additionally, this preview adds support for the .webp file format for setting desktop background images.
What’s new on Windows 11 build 28020.1495
These are the most significant changes being rolled out in the latest preview of Windows 11 for the Canary Channel:
- Start menu: Resolved an issue where the shutdown warning dialog’s edge could be cut off by the Start menu when other users were still signed in.
- Input: Fixed a problem that caused a black flash when using a pen to ink in the Snipping Tool.
- Power: Addressed an issue in recent Canary builds where shutdown could appear to restart on some Insider devices.
- Settings: Fixed a loading hang on the Windows Update settings page and resolved an issue preventing English (Australia) language features under Time & Language > Language & Region from downloading.
- Other: Fixed a bug causing
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUALbugchecks for a small number of Insiders, related to certain smart card readers.
Microsoft is also noting a known issue that is causing open windows and tabs in File Explorer to jump to the Desktop and Home at the same time.
It is important to clarify that Windows 11 26H1 is not a feature update for existing devices. The software giant has explicitly confirmed that version 26H1 is not an upgrade path for computers running Windows 11 25H2 or any earlier release.
This release is designed exclusively for new ARM64 hardware and will ship only on next-generation computers, starting with devices powered by Snapdragon X2 Plus, Elite, and Extreme processors. Systems based on Intel or AMD platforms will never receive Windows 11 26H1 through Windows Update or any other supported upgrade channel.
