Build 29639 for Windows 11 adds new system update controls – Future Platforms

Microsoft quietly improves Windows 11 with smarter update controls, better controller navigation, and enterprise policy changes in the latest build for Future Platforms.

Microsoft is releasing Windows 11 build 29639 for the “Feature Platforms” version, delivering a small set of features, as well as incremental changes and fixes.

According to the official changelog“Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (29639)ships the ability to pause updates as many times as you need, improved navigation to Bluetooth settings using gamepad input, and updated policy to remove smart card.

What’s new on Windows 11 build 29639 (Future Platforms)

These are the new features and improvements rolling out in the Future Platforms channel:

Windows Update changes

Starting with build 29639, you can now pause updates using a calendar interface for up to 35 days and extend that pause as many times as needed, effectively removing previous limits

Smart card policy update

Network administrators can now configure Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and Windows 365 sessions that use Microsoft Entra ID (RDS AAD Auth) authentication to automatically disconnect when a redirected smart card is removed.

Settings improvements

This release adds gamepad navigation support for the Bluetooth Quick Settings page, allowing users to control Bluetooth options with a controller.

Preview build download

To download and install this Windows 11 build, enroll your devices in the Experimental experience through the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section. Once you enroll the computer in the program for the Future Platform version, you can download the build from the “Windows Update” settings by turning on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option and clicking the “Check for Updates” button.

Alternatively, you can also download the ISO files from the Windows Insider Preview Downloads page. Specific preview builds are available for a limited time only.
