  • Windows 11 error 0x80073712 can prevent preview builds from installing successfully.
  • Windows Sandbox was the cause of the installation failure in this particular case.
  • Disabling the feature and restarting the computer allowed the Windows 11 preview build to install successfully.

On Windows 11, I recently tried to install a preview build through the Windows Insider Program, but every time the system attempted to install it, the process failed with error 0x80073712.

According to the official Microsoft support page, error 0x80073712 (ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT) means the component store is in an inconsistent state. However, in this particular case, Windows Sandbox was causing the problem. After disabling the feature, the Windows 11 preview build installed successfully.

This isn’t the first time I’ve encountered a similar issue, so I decided to create this guide in case a future preview build or update causes the same problem. If you run into error 0x80073712 while updating Windows 11, disabling Windows Sandbox may be all you need to get the installation working again.
