  • AMD FSR 4.1 is now available for Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards and selected Ryzen AI processors through Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1.
  • The machine learning-based upscaling technology reconstructs higher-resolution images from lower-resolution game frames to improve image quality and potentially boost frame rates.
  • Selected Ryzen Z2 gaming handhelds are included in AMD’s expansion, but availability depends on the device and its manufacturer.
  • Xbox Series X and Series S support is coming soon, with no specific consumer release date announced.

AMD is expanding its AI-powered upscaling technology to older graphics cards, laptops, and gaming handhelds, with Xbox consoles next.

The silicon manufacturer is bringing FSR Upscaling 4.1 to more Windows devices, including systems with Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards and selected Ryzen AI processors. The update improves image quality when rendering games at lower resolutions, helping compatible hardware deliver sharper visuals and potentially higher frame rates without requiring a graphics card upgrade.

Announced on October 20, 2026, the expansion also covers selected Ryzen Z2 gaming handhelds, while support for Xbox Series X and Series S consoles is coming soon.

What is AMD FSR 4.1?

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is an upscaling technology that reconstructs a higher-resolution image from a game rendered at a lower resolution. Rendering fewer pixels reduces the graphics workload, potentially allowing a game to run at a higher frame rate while delivering sharper visuals than rendering at the same lower resolution without upscaling. The actual results depend on the game, hardware, and graphics settings.

FSR 4 introduced machine learning-based upscaling, and version 4.1 builds on that approach with improvements to image reconstruction and broader hardware support.

The technology originally launched for Radeon RX 9000 Series graphics cards in 2025 before expanding to Radeon RX 7000 Series GPUs in 2026. The latest expansion brings an optimized implementation to older graphics cards and integrated graphics in selected processors.

The company says FSR 4.1 delivers a significant image-quality improvement over FSR 3.1. The practical benefit depends on the game, hardware, and implementation, so users shouldn’t expect the same performance gains across every title.

Which Windows 11 devices support FSR 4.1?

AMD is expanding support across several hardware categories, including desktop graphics cards, laptops, and handheld gaming PCs.

  • Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics cards: Owners can use FSR 4.1 on supported games without upgrading to a newer graphics card.
  • Ryzen AI Max 300 and 400 Series processors: Compatible systems, including select laptops and mini PCs, gain the improved upscaling technology.
  • Ryzen AI 9 300 and 400 Series processors: Selected laptops can benefit from the more efficient implementation designed for this hardware.
  • Ryzen Z2 handheld processors: AMD’s expansion includes devices featuring the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme, and Ryzen Z2 A.

For users running Windows 11, this update brings newer AI-powered upscaling to Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards released in 2020.

AMD has optimized its models for different hardware capabilities rather than using a single implementation across every device.

When can you get FSR 4.1?

Owners of supported Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards and Ryzen AI Max 300/400 or Ryzen AI 9 300/400 systems can get FSR 4.1 through the AMD Software Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 driver, released on October 20.

The driver supports Windows 11 and Windows 10, although laptop owners should check their manufacturer’s support page for drivers customized for their systems.

Gaming handhelds are a separate case. AMD’s standard Adrenalin software package doesn’t support handheld gaming devices, so owners should check with their device manufacturer for compatible drivers and FSR 4.1 availability. AMD says release timing can vary by device.

Xbox Series X and Series S support is also coming soon, but AMD hasn’t announced a specific consumer release date.

More improvements are coming to FSR

AMD also announced Vulkan support for FSR 4.1 and improvements to frame pacing for FSR Frame Generation. These changes could help developers deliver smoother gameplay and expand support across different games and graphics technologies.

Will AMD's FSR 4.1 update make you keep your current graphics card longer?

For gamers, the immediate benefit is broader access to machine learning-based upscaling, particularly on older Radeon graphics cards and newer integrated graphics systems. Users won’t need to replace their hardware to access the new implementation, as long as their devices and games are supported.
