  • Windows 11 build 29704.1000 is available in the Experimental (Future Platforms) channel.
  • Desktop apps can now have individual camera, microphone, and location permissions managed through Settings.
  • The update fixes Windows Update errors and HDMI or DisplayPort audio problems on certain AMD graphics cards.

Microsoft is now rolling out the Windows 11 Insider Preview build 29704.1000 for the Feature Platforms version in the Windows Insider Program. This update includes fixes and pushes a small set of features.

According to the official notes, Windows 11 build 29704.1000 is now available in the Experimental (Future Platforms) channel and adds more granular privacy controls, letting users manage camera, microphone, and location access for individual desktop apps in the Settings app.

The update also addresses two important issues, including a Windows Update installation error (0x80070057 - 0x20003) that prevented some users from upgrading to newer preview builds. Additionally, the company resolved an audio playback problem affecting certain AMD graphics cards when using HDMI or DisplayPort connections.

What’s new on Windows 11 build 29704.1000 (Experimental)

These are the new features and improvements rolling out in the Experimental channel:

Manage privacy permissions for individual apps

Windows 11 makes privacy management more transparent by letting Insiders control camera, microphone, and location access for individual desktop apps. Previously, traditional desktop applications shared a device-wide permission setting, making it harder to identify and manage which apps could access sensitive resources.

Now, you can review and allow or deny permissions separately for each app under Settings > Privacy & security, where you can find the Camera, Microphone, and Location pages. Apps that haven’t previously accessed a resource will prompt users for permission the first time they request access.

One thing to note is that existing permission decisions remain unchanged. Microsoft also points out that most desktop apps appear with clear names, but applications relying on shared system components or browser-hosted experiences might appear under unexpected names.

Some apps may also appear as Unsigned when the system cannot verify their publisher. Microsoft recommends granting access only to apps you recognize and trust.
