Microsoft has released Windows 11 build 26300.7965 as the update KB5079385 for version 26H2 through the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider Program. This preview introduces a small scope of improvements and several fixes.

In addition, the company is rolling out Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7961 (KB5079382) in the Beta Channel, with most of the same features as those available in the Dev Channel.

According to the company, the “Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (26300.7965)” ships with the Administrator Protection feature, tweaks the Drag Tray to make it less intrusive, and rolls out an updated version of File Explorer with the ability to use Voice Type when renaming files.

Microsoft is not noting any known issues with this particular release of the operating system.

Although this article lists the changes for version 26H2, Windows 11 still shows 25H2 as the version number, but the version number will eventually change to 26H2.

What’s new on Windows 11 build 26300.7965

These are the new features and improvements rolling out in the Dev Channel:

Administrator Protection feature

Administrator Protection is a Windows 11 security feature that enhances the security of accounts with administrative privileges. Typically, users in the “Administrators” group can modify system settings and install apps without restrictions. While these capabilities are useful, they also present a significant security risk, as malicious actors can exploit them to compromise the system.

This feature helps mitigate these risks by reducing the chance of users making system-level changes by mistake and preventing malware from silently making unauthorized modifications.

Drag Tray changes

Microsoft notes that, based on feedback, it has concluded that the Drag Tray can be a little intrusive, so in this update, the feature uses a smaller peek view to minimize accidental invocation.

File Explorer improvements

On builds 26300.7965 and 26220.7961, you’ll find an updated version of File Explorer that allows you to use Voice Typing to rename files.

It fixes the white flash bug when launching a new window or tab with the This PC page set as the default. Furthermore, this update fixes flashes when resizing elements of File Explorer.

Other hidden changes

In addition to the official changes, it has been spotted (@PhantomOfEarth) that build 26300.7965 includes the ability to manage the buttons that appear inside the Quick Settings flyout. It’s important to note that this feature has been available in previous versions of the operating system.
