Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming a core part of the Windows 11 experience, redefining how you interact with your devices. With the introduction of advanced features like Windows Recall, Click to Do, Semantic Indexing, and Auto Super Resolution, the operating system leverages powerful AI models that run directly on your Copilot+ PC. These models tap into specialized hardware, such as Neural Processing Units (NPUs), to deliver low-latency, high-efficiency performance without relying on the cloud.
If you are a developer, network administrator, or a person managing Windows 11, knowing which AI models are installed has its benefits. Whether you’re troubleshooting, optimizing workloads, or just wanting to explore your system’s AI capabilities, you can view the installed models directly from the Settings app in Windows 11.
In this guide, I’ll outline the easy steps to determine the AI models installed on your computer.
Check the AI models installed on Windows 11
To confirm the AI models available on your Copilot+ PC, follow these steps:
-
Open Settings on Windows 11.
-
Click on System.
-
Click the AI components page.
-
Confirm the AI models installed on your Copilot+ PC. For example, AI Content Extraction, AI Image Search, AI Phi Silia, AI Semantic Analysis, and AI Settings.
Once you complete the steps, the system will list the models that Windows 11 is using to process AI tasks on your computer.
The “AI Components” page appears in the Settings app regardless of whether your device includes modern hardware capable of handling AI workloads. However, the list of available components will vary based on your system’s hardware capabilities.
Although the operating system doesn’t include a description for each component, we can deduce most of them:
- AI Content Extraction: Refers to the capability of AI to identify and pull out specific pieces of information (like text and objects) from various types of content, such as documents, images, and other files.
- AI Image Search: This involves using AI to search for images based on their content rather than file names or tags. This allows you to find similar images or images containing specific objects or scenes using natural language.
- AI Phi Silia: It’s a small language model (SLM) developed by Microsoft that is specifically optimized to run efficiently on the neural processing unit (NPU) of Copilot+ PCs. It’s been designed for tasks that require language understanding and generation.
- AI Semantic Analysis: This is related to the Semantic Indexing feature that allows AI to understand the meaning and context behind user input, especially in search queries. Instead of just looking for exact keyword matches, it tries to understand the user’s intent.
- AI Settings: This component likely refers to the AI search capability available in the Settings app.
It’s important to note that this page only allows you to view the AI components available on your computer. You cannot uninstall them from this page, but you may remove some of these models by uninstalling the AI feature. For example, if you uninstall Windows Recall, the system will also remove all the components and data.
