How to disable ‘Let’s finish setting up your device’ with ‘Remind me in 3 days’ prompt on Windows 11

On Windows 11, you can stop the system from repeatedly showing the “Let’s finish setting up your device” prompt at login, and in this guide, I’ll show you how.

After installing an update, setting up a new device, or restarting the computer, Windows 11 may display the “Let’s finish setting up your device” screen to encourage you to configure additional features and services. Depending on your setup, the recommendations may include OneDrive, Microsoft 365, Windows Backup, or Microsoft Edge.

The screen includes a “Continue” button to complete the recommended setup. However, if you don’t want to configure any of these features, Windows 11 doesn’t always make the alternative obvious. Instead, you may see options such as “Remind me in 3 days” or “Remind me later,” which only postpone the prompt rather than disabling it.

If you keep dismissing the screen this way, Windows 11 can show the same setup recommendations again later.

Fortunately, the Settings app includes an option to prevent the operating system from displaying these suggestions after you sign in. The setting isn’t located alongside the usual notification controls, however, making it easy to overlook.

In this guide, I’ll show you where to find the setting and how to disable the “Let’s finish setting up your device” prompt so Windows 11 stops repeatedly asking you to configure these features and services.

Disable finish device setup reminder at logon from Settings

To prevent Windows 11 from showing the page to finish setting up your device, follow these steps:

1. Open Settings on Windows 11.

2. Click on System.

3. Click the Notifications page.

4. Click on Additional settings at the bottom of the page.

5. Clear the “Suggest ways to get the most out of Windows and finish setting up this device” option to disable the finish setting up device message.

   

6. (Optional) Clear the “Show the Windows welcome experience after updates and when signed in to show what’s new and suggested” option.

7. (Optional) Clear the “Get tips and suggestions when using Windows” option.

Once you complete the steps, you should no longer see the “Let’s finish setting up your device” page upon login after installing an update or restarting the computer.

Disable finish device setup reminder at logon from Registry

To turn off the screen that requests finishing setting up your device on Windows 11, follow these steps:

1. Open Start.

2. Search for regedit and click the top result to open the Registry.

3. Browse the following path:

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UserProfileEngagement

4. Right-click the ScoobeSystemSettingEnabled DWORD and choose the Modify option.

5. Change the value from 1 to 0.

   

6. Click the OK button.

7. Restart the computer.

After you complete the steps, Windows 11 should no longer nag you to complete setting up your device at logon.

I don’t mind Windows 11 suggesting features I might find useful. What bothers me is when the operating system keeps asking me to finish setting up a device after I’ve already decided how I want to use it.

I also don’t think I should have to keep choosing “Remind me later” to get past something I don’t want. A clear setting to turn off these recommendations is the better approach, even if Microsoft makes that option harder to find than it should be.

For most people, I’d stick with the Settings method and leave the Registry alone unless there’s a specific reason to use it. Once I turn off these suggestions, I expect the operating system to get out of the way and let me use the computer without repeatedly pushing setup recommendations.
