On April 6, 2026, at 6:41 PM EDT, the Artemis II crew captured a breathtaking “Earthset” through the Orion spacecraft window during their flyby of the Moon. The muted blue Earth, dotted with bright white clouds, sets behind the cratered lunar surface. The night side of Earth is in shadow, while swirling clouds over Australia and Oceania are visible on the day side.
In the foreground, Ohm crater displays terraced edges and a flat floor interrupted by central peaks, formed when the lunar surface splashed upward during the crater’s creation.
This stunning perspective echoes the iconic Earthrise photo taken by Bill Anders 58 years ago on Apollo 8, offering Windows 11 users a new way to experience the beauty of our planet from space.
