  • To enable Copilot Mode on Microsoft Edge, open the edge://settings/ai page and turn on “Copilot Mode.”
  • To disable the AI experience, open the edge://settings/ai page and toggle off the “Copilot Mode” setting.
  • You can also control the feature by configuring the edge://flags/#edge-copilot-mode and edge://flags/#edge-ntp-composer experimental settings.

UPDATED 10/24/2025: Microsoft Edge is now becoming an AI browser (similar to ChatGPT Atlas) with the introduction of Copilot Mode. This new experience has been designed to help you surf the web more easily with a little AI assistant, and in this guide, I’ll outline the steps to enable or disable the feature.

Copilot Mode is a free opt-in feature in Microsoft Edge version 141 and higher. Once it’s enabled, the “New Tab” page on Edge will be replaced with the Copilot experience you’re already familiar with in the Windows 11 app and the web version of the chatbot.

Also, the “Copilot” (Chat) button will now appear in the address bar on the top-left corner of the browser. When you click on it, you will get a flyout with a prompt box to ask the chatbot anything you need.

The key feature of Copilot Mode is that the chatbot can now see all your open tabs and understand their contents, helping you compare, decide, and take action faster.

Also, through this experience, the company is launching Copilot Actions, an agentic AI feature that can perform tasks on your behalf, like unsubscribing from marketing newsletter emails or booking a reservation. However, this feature remains limited and unreliable.

Furthermore, with the introduction of “Journeys,” Copilot can turn your browsing data and page content into helpful summaries that make it easy to revisit past work and resume tasks through timely suggestions. Journeys may also use your web searches and Copilot conversations to make them more personal.

In this guide, I’ll outline the steps to turn Copilot Mode on or off on Microsoft Edge for Windows 11.

Enable Copilot Mode on Microsoft Edge

To turn on the new Copilot Mode for the Edge browser, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Microsoft Edge browser.

  2. Open the AI Innovations settings page:

    edge://settings/ai

    Enable Copilot Mode on Edge

Quick tip: If the option isn’t available, open this Microsoft page, and turn on the “Copilot Mode” toggle switch.
  4. (Optional) Click on Explorer Journeys.

  5. Turn on the Journeys toggle switch.

    Enable Journeys on Edge

  6. Confirm the terms to proceed.
