As part of the Windows Insider Program, the Beta Channel for Windows 11 includes two branches, one that comes with the new features currently in development turned on by default and another that keeps the new features disabled by default.
In the past, if the device was in the branch with the features disabled, you could switch to the build with the features turned on by clicking the “Check for updates” button on the “Windows Update” page. However, starting with the update KB5025299, the settings page includes a new option that allows you to switch build branches more seamlessly.
Insiders in the Beta Channel who are on build 22621 and toggle the new option will get updated to build 22624 through an enablement package. On the other hand, Insiders who are already on Windows 11 build 22624 and toggle the option will see a “Windows configuration update” offered that is designed to help Microsoft make sure this new toggle is connected to the system backend services correctly.
This guide will teach you the steps to switch a device in the Beta Channel to the build branch that enables the new features in development as soon as they’re ready.
Enable new features preview updates on Beta Channel
To switch to the build that enables new features as soon as they’re ready on Windows 11, use these steps:
-
Open Settings on Windows 11.
-
Click on Windows Update.
-
Turn on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” toggle switch.
Once you complete the steps, the system will switch from build 22621 to 22624 through the installation of an enablement package that turns on the new features in development automatically.
The option is only meant for devices enrolled in the Beta Channel of the Windows Insider Program.
