- The August 2024 update (KB5041580) for Windows 10 includes several fixes and improvements but doesn’t introduce new features.
- Windows 10 1809, 1607, and 1507 are also getting an update to fix different issues.
The August 2024 Patch Tuesday Update is now rolling out as build 19044.4780 and 19045.4780 (KB5041580) for Windows 10 22H2 and 21H2, which includes various fixes and improvements.
According to the official notes from August 13, 2024, the monthly security update, there are no new features or significant changes, but the company is fixing problems with Wi-Fi Protected Access 3 (WPA3), ILT and Local Users and Groups, TCP, Windows Backup, and DHCP Option 235.
In addition, similar to the August 2024 update for Windows 11, this update resolves printing problems and updates the Windows Kernel Vulnerable Driver Blocklist file to include a list of drivers at risk for BYOVD attacks.
This security update also fixes the BitLocker recovery screen that shows when starting the computer. However, you will still have to provide the recovery key to start the device and download the latest system update.
Furthermore, the update KB5041580 fixes the Lock screen’s missing the “Use my Windows user account” check box to connect to Wi-Fi, removes the “NetJoinLegacyAccountReuse” Registry key, and applies the Secure Boot Advanced Targeting (SBAT) to systems running the operating system to prevent the vulnerable Linux EFI (Shim bootloaders) from running.
Older version of Windows 10
In addition, the company is making updates available for older operating system versions, including 1809, 1607, and 1507. For example, the company is rolling out the update KB5041578 for version 1809, bumping the build number to 17763.6189 to fix several problems.
Windows 10 1607 receives the update KB5041773, which bumps the version to build 10240.7259 and resolves several issues with this version, similar to version 1809.
Finally, Windows 10 1507 is getting the update KB5041782, which increases the version to build 10240.20751 and introduces a few resolutions to similar problems found on version 1809.
August 2024 update install
If you want to download and install Windows 10 build 19045.4780 and 19044.4780, you can force the update from Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, turn on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” toggle switch, and click the “Check for updates” button.
If you prefer manually installing the August 2024 update for Windows 10, download it from the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
