How to limit ASUS laptop’s battery charge to 80 percent on Windows 11

You can limit battery charging to 80% on ASUS laptops with the MyASUS app, and here's how on Windows 11.

  • Windows 11 doesn’t offer a built-in feature to limit battery charging to 80 percent, but ASUS laptops include a “Battery Care Mode” in the MyASUS app to enable this option.
  • Once enabled, the device automatically stops charging at 80 percent to help reduce battery wear and extend lifespan.
  • You can install the app through the Microsoft Store or using the winget command if it’s not already installed.

If you’re using an ASUS Windows 11 laptop, the MyASUS app includes a feature known as “Battery Care Mode” that allows you to limit charging to 80 percent. This can help reduce battery wear and extend its overall lifespan. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the steps to configure this feature.

While I typically avoid installing manufacturer apps due to their clunky interfaces and limited benefits, MyASUS is one exception. The battery management feature that comes with this app addresses a long-standing issue, constant battery charging to 100 percent, which is known to degrade lithium battery health over time.

Since Windows 11 doesn’t offer a native option to cap battery charging at a custom level, MyASUS is perhaps the best solution available for ASUS laptop users.

In this guide, I’ll outline the steps to limit battery charging to 80 percent on Windows 11.

Set charging limit to 80% on Windows 11 for ASUS laptops

To cap your laptop’s battery charging on Windows 11, follow these steps:

  1. Open the MyASUS app on Windows 11.

Quick note: You don’t have to sign up or register your device when using the app. You can always skip these steps and open the power settings directly.
  2. Click on Device Settings.

  3. Click the General tab.

  4. Click on Power & Performance.

  5. Turn on the “Battery Care Mode” toggle switch to limit charging to 80 percent.

    Enable Battery Care Mode

  6. (Optional) Turn on “Instant Full-Charge Mode” to allow the charging to 100 percent, and after 24 hours, revert to “Battery Care Mode.”

Once you complete the steps, the laptop will stop charging when the battery reaches 80 percent of its full capacity.

Install MyASUS app on Windows 11

If the app isn’t present on Windows 11, you can install it from the Microsoft Store or using these steps:

  1. Open Start.

  2. Search for Command Prompt (or Terminal), right-click the top result, and choose Run as administrator.

  3. Type this command to install the MyASUS app and press Enter:

    winget install --id 9N7R5S6B0ZZH

    winget install MyASUS app

  4. Press “Y” to continue.

After you complete the steps, the app will be available from the Start menu, and you can use the previous instructions to configure the power settings.

Although you can install the MyASUS app on any computer, the features are restricted to the capabilities of the ASUS device. As a result, it’s not recommended to install this tool on devices from other brands.

Battery health charging FAQs

Although battery technology has advanced over the years, studies have shown that charging to 100 percent and keeping the device plugged in constantly increases battery stress and degrades batteries more quickly.

Usually, it’s recommended to limit charging to 80 to 90 percent to extend longevity.

Additionally, manufacturers such as ASUS provide information on their support page stating that continuously charging to 100 percent can shorten battery life.

Furthermore, Microsoft also notes in its Surface support page that keeping devices plugged in all the time may lead to battery degradation. Surface devices use the “Battery Smart Charging” feature to prevent overcharging and preserve battery health.

While many companies have taken steps to provide a way to control stress and prolong battery lifespan on their devices, it’s odd that Microsoft is limiting this feature to Surface devices and hasn’t added a native feature to Windows 11.
