Microsoft’s recent documents leak shows that the company is working on a new Xbox Series X console that will introduce a different design and features in 2024. According to a new report from The Verge, the project is internally known as “Brooklin,” features a new cylindrical shape without a disc drive, and includes a redesigned wireless controller.
The internal documents suggest that the new console features a 2TB hard drive and a USB-C port in the front with support for power delivery. As part of the hardware changes, in addition to being a disc-less console, Microsoft is expected to ship a revised processor using a 6nm process that will also improve efficiency and power consumption. Furthermore, the cylindrical Xbox Series X will include support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The asking price for the new console will be $499.
The new controller, internally known as “Sebile,” will also introduce a new design with a white and dark color scheme, direct connection support to cloud gaming, Bluetooth 5.2, an accelerometer, and an updated connection.
Other specifications revealed in the documents are “precision haptic feedback,” “VCA haptics double as speakers,” modular thumbsticks, quieter buttons and thumbsticks, and the same battery support as previous versions of the controller.
In the documents, the company also mentions another refresh for the Xbox Series S. A new black version of the Series S was recently introduced, but the new information suggests another revision of the console coming in 2024 with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 support.
Furthermore, the leaked document also notes that console customization through the Xbox Design Lab is part of the strategy in the coming years.
Although the documents do not share specific details on the release date, it’s likely that Microsoft plans to launch the new Xbox Series S in September 2024 and the Xbox Series X in November 2024.
It’s important to note that Microsoft’s chief, Phil Spencer, recently talked about the unintentional leak of the Xbox documents and revealed that many of the plans may have changed, and some information dates back to over a year ago. As such, we will have to wait and see if these console refreshes become a reality.
