Today, April 9th, Microsoft is scheduled to release a number of security and firmware updates as part of the on going Patch Tuesday for Windows OS, Surface RT, and Surface with Windows 8 Pro.
In April’s Patch Tuesday, which users will be able to download starting 1PM E.T., Microsoft plans to release 9 updates, 7 of them are marked as important, while the remaining 2 are marked as critical, patching at total of 14 vulnerabilities.
One of the scheduled critical update (MS13-028) is target to address two issues in IE6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 in Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and RT, which could allow remote code execution if a user lands on a specially crafted web page. The remaining critical update (MS13-029) addresses a vulnerability in the Remote Desktop Client that could also allow remote code execution via a specially crafted web page.
The other group of 7 updates focus on Antimalware client, Office, Windows client, and Windows Server.
Also today the software giant is making available another firmware update for its tablets, Surface Pro, and Surface RT.
Yet again, the company is aiming to fix the wireless connectivity issues that users have been complaining for a good amount of time, the Microsoft’s Surface update history details:
- Resolves system crashes caused by certain Wi-Fi issues.
- Certain “Limited” connectivity issues resolved
- Improves Wi-Fi to handle a wide range of access points.
The Microsoft’ Surface Pro update history page, on the other hand, shows a different set of fixes including:
- Resolves an issue where toggling airplane mode would disable the Wi-Fi driver.
- Resolves an issue with on screen touch navigation in the UEFI boot menu.
- Resolves some Surface Type and Touch cover connectivity issues.
- Support for 106/109 keyboards on North American Surface devices.
