Surface Laptop 2 and 1st Gen get July 2020 firmware update

The first and second generation of Surface Laptop picked up a new firmware update to resolve issues and improve reliability with Surface Dock 2.

Microsoft has released firmware updates for its Surface Laptop 2 and Surface Laptop (1st Gen) to improve reliability with Surface Dock 2 and touch and pen issues.

The firmware updates have a release date of July 17, they’re both identical, and they’re available for devices running Windows 10 version 1903 or later.

Surface Laptop 2 and 1st Gen firmware update

Here are all the changes available with July 17 firmware update for Surface Laptop (1st Gen) and Surface Laptop 2:

  • Surface – Extension – 1.3.139.0: Resolves Touch & Pen issues after Windows update on 1903 or higher.
  • Surface – Firmware – 2.49.139.0: Improves Surface Dock 2 reliability during Wake On LAN scenarios and improves the overall stability.
  • Surface – Extension – 5.5.0.0: Improves Surface Dock 2 reliability during Wake On LAN scenarios and improves the overall stability.
  • Surface – System – 6.83.139.0: Improves Surface Dock 2 reliability during authentication scenarios.

The update should download and install automatically, but if you have not received it, then you get it from Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and try to force the download manually.
