Surface Laptop and Surface Pro 3 get February 2018 firmware updates

Surface Laptop gets battery improve update while Surface Pro 3 receives firmware to mitigate Spectre and Meltdown security vulnerabilities.

Microsoft is now releasing a minor firmware update for its Surface Laptop to help improve battery stability on the device running any version of Windows 10.

The firmware changelog is dated February 28, and according to the Microsoft value indicator chart this update doesn’t have any effect on security, connectivity, compatibility, performance, or battery life.

Here’s the driver version that is updated in this release and the improvement it provides:

  • Surface System Aggregator Firmware: 135.2114.3.0 improves battery stability.

Surface Pro 3 firmware update

Alongside the Surface Laptop update, Microsoft recently also made available a firmware update for its Surface Pro 3 tablet that aims to mitigate the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities.

The firmware changelog is dated February 20, and according to the Microsoft value indicator chart this update doesn’t have any effect on reliability, connectivity, compatibility, performance, or battery life.

Here’s the driver version that is updated in this release and the improvement it provides:

  • Surface UEFI – Firmware: 3.11.2350.0 resolves potential security vulnerabilities, including Microsoft security advisory 180002.

The new February 2018 firmware update for the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro 3 should download and install automatically. However, if you have not received the update on your Surface, then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update and try to force the download manually.
