Windows 10 Redstone 2 (build 14905) for PC and Mobile ready for download

Microsoft delivers another Windows 10 Redstone preview (build 14905) with minor improvements, fixes, and various known issues to consider before installing.

Windows 10 updates

Microsoft begins the roll out of a new Windows 10 Redstone 2 preview. Today, the company is releasing Windows 10 build 14905 to the Fast ring for PC and Mobile devices.

The new update doesn’t include new features as the company continues to add structural improvements to OneCore. However, there are some minor fixes on PC, and Windows 10 Mobile gets a refined sound set, and some known issues that crash apps, Settings, and Start menu that you should consider before installing.

What’s new on Windows 10 build 14905 for PC

On the new Redstone 2 preview for PC, Microsoft Edge adds support for Ctrl + O keyboard shortcut for setting focus on the address bar. And the new update fixes a large black space that appears between the address and web content on Microsoft Edge.

Narrator Scan mode for tablet now supports CTRL + ALT + HOME keyboard shortcut to go to the beginning of the table, and CTRL + ALT + END keyboard shortcut to go to the end of the table.

Finally, Sketchpad and Screen Sketch should no longer crash trying to change the ink color when using the ruler.

Known issues for Windows 10 PC

Among the new known issues, Cortana’s text to speech isn’t working on this flight.

In build 14905, clicking the Power button will crash the Start menu. For now, you’ll have to use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to bring up the Power User menu and shut down your PC.

Certain apps and the Settings app will crash on this version of the operating system.

What’s new on Windows 10 Mobile build 14905

Windows 10 Mobile build 14905, Microsoft introduces a new refined sound set.

“We aspire to set a new bar for mobile sound set quality, and are trying to make the soundscape of technology more beautiful and harmonious. — Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar says.”

If you want to use the new sounds go to Settings > Personalization > Sounds to see the update list of sounds.

Microsoft is also fixing a number of issues on this Redstone 2 update, such as “Missed call notifications are now more actionable, with inline options to call back, text or remind yourself to do something about it later.”

The new flight also fixes issues in the Lock screen and Turn-by-Turn directions.

Known issues for Windows 10 Mobile

On Windows 10 build 14905 for Mobile, you will find two known issues. If you move apps between a SD card and internal storage, those apps will get stuck in a pending state. And Cortana’s text to speech isn’t working on this flight.

Windows 10 build 14905 for PC and Mobile is available immediately through the Fast ring. The new preview will download and install automatically, but you can always force the update from Settings > Update & security > Windows Update and clicking the Check for updates button.
