  • Windows 11 22H2 is no longer a supported operating system starting October 8, 2024.
  • This means that the operating system will no longer receive updates or support of any kind.
  • Affected editions include Windows 11 Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations.
  • If you’re still using this version, it’s recommended that you upgrade to version 23H2 or 24H2.

Windows 11 22H2 (2022 Update) officially ended support on October 8, 2024. This applies to some of the editions, including Windows 11 Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations. However, Windows 11 Enterprise and Education will continue to be supported until October 14, 2025.

You can still run version 22H2, but Microsoft will no longer offer support for this release after October 8. Computers running this version will no longer receive security updates.

If you have a device with the no longer supported release of Windows 11, the system will eventually upgrade automatically to the next supported version, which in this case will be version 23H2. However, you can always upgrade manually with a quick enablement package.

To upgrade manually, open SettingsWindows Update, click the “Check for updates” button, and click the “Download and install” button (if applicable). It’s important to note that there’s no difference between version 22H2 and 23H2 since these releases are nearly identical. As such, the upgrade through the Windows Update settings is quick and won’t perform a reinstallation. Technically, the upgrade will simply switch the version number from 22H2 to 23H2.

If you decide to upgrade from 22H2 to 23H2, the system will extend support until November 11, 2025, at which point, you will have to upgrade to version 24H2 to main support until October 1, 2026.

Alternatively, you can also perform an in-place upgrade or clean installation if you want to make the leap to Windows 11 24H2, which became available on October 8. After the installation, you’ll need to restart to complete the installation, which could take some time, depending on the hardware configuration.

If you want to manually upgrade to the most recent version, you can use the Media Creation Tool or Update Assistant.

In case you want to install the Windows 11 2024 Update, you should understand the known issues currently affecting the release. You can also use these instructions to avoid problems during the upgrade process, and if you are still doubtful about this release, I wrote another guide to help you decide whether you should upgrade or not.

In addition, on October 8, 2024, Microsoft also ended support for Windows 11 21H2 for Enterprise and Education editions available for organizations. It’s important to understand that version 21H2 for Home and Pro editions retired in October 2023.

Are you still running version 22H2 on your computer? When are you planning to upgrade? Let me know in the comments.
