  • Windows 11 build 22458 is now available in the Dev Channel.
  • Changes include a new link to access the Sign-in options from the power menu and the updated Tips app.
  • Build 22458 ships with a bunch of fixes and known issues.

Microsoft is now rolling out Windows 11 build 22458 for compatible devices enrolled in the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider Program. This release represents the third preview from the active development branch, and it’s a small update with minor visual changes and a slew of fixes. (See also this hands-on video highlighting the new changes for this flight at the Pureinfotech YouTube channel.)

Build 22458 for Windows 11, according to the company, adds a quick access button to the power menu in the Start menu to access the “Sign-in options” page. (However, the option was already present in build 22454.)

Microsoft is also updating the Tips app with a new interface that matches the design language for Windows 11 with rounded corners and acrylic material. Furthermore, the app now includes more than one hundred tips to help users get started with the new OS. The tips will appear throughout the experience. And the company even created a “Tips” widget for the Widgets experience.

As part of the fixes, this flight addresses reliability problems with the Start menu. Windows 11 will now index folders with the “#” number sign as part of the name as part of the search experience.

In the Settings app, build 22458 fixes crashes issues with the Display page. Clicking “More about refresh rate” in Advanced Display Settings now opens the support page. It also fixes problems with the Location page, now the preferences under “Manage App Execution Alias” will be preserved, and more.

In addition, Windows 11 build 2248 fixes the problem with text truncation in the Encrypting File System, uninstalled in-box app will reappear after reboot, and the “Appx” commandlets should now work with PowerShell.

This release also includes several known issues with the Start menu, Taskbar, Search, File Explorer, Widgets, and Window Sandbox.

If you want to download and install the Windows 11 build 22458, you need to enroll your device in the Dev Channel using the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section.

Once you enroll the computer in the program, you can download build 22458 from the “Windows Update” settings by clicking the Check for Updates button. However, you will need a device that meets the minimum system requirements to receive the update if you are new to the Windows Insider Program.
