- Windows 11 is testing a new Keyboard settings page under “Bluetooth & Devices” that adds a “Keyboard backlight” control, allowing you to adjust the keyboard backlight via the Settings app instead of using physical keyboard shortcuts.
Microsoft is building a new feature that will allow you to control the backlight of your keyboard on Windows 11 using the Settings app.
In recent previews available through the Windows Insider Program, it’s been discovered that the software giant is working on a new “Keyboard” settings page in the “Bluetooth & devices” section. On this page, you’ll find a new “Keyboard backlight” entry, indicating that future updates will allow you to control the keyboard backlight directly from the Settings app.

Currently, if you have a keyboard with backlight support, you have to use the physical shortcuts in the peripheral to turn the backlighting on or off and to change the intensity. However, this new implementation should allow you to control this capability directly from the Settings app.
For clarification, Windows 11 also includes Dynamic Lighting, a feature that enables you to control RGB lighting on your computer. Sometimes, keyboards also offer backlighting using RGB, but I believe this new feature is intended for regular backlighting, and only for the keyboard.
In addition, this new “Keyboard” page includes settings to control repeat delay and repeat rate settings, which is something that Microsoft has mentioned in the past.
Microsoft is also working on updating the “Touchpad” settings page, which will add new controls to manage click pressure, haptic click, and haptic signal intensity.

Furthermore, the company is also working to revamp the “Mobile devices” settings, which will enable you to view connected devices and control various features on the page without needing to open another application.

The “Privacy & security” section in the Settings app is also getting some changes. For instance, the company is regrouping the settings, changing their heading, and even adding a new “Background AI tasks” page.

It’s unclear when these changes will become available to everyone, but they should start rolling out for testing soon.
