The real countdown begins… Microsoft has announced this week that Windows 8 will be finally available on October 26th, 2012 — If you want to add a sticky note in your calendar, this will be a Friday. The announcement was made by Steven Sinofsky at the company’s annual sales meeting, and he also published the news at the Windows blog. The launch of Windows 8 will be for new PC installs and for upgrades as well. We already knew that Microsoft was planning the launch in October, we just didn’t know the exact day, but now we do!

Knowing the general availability date, we also now know when Windows 8 RT Surface is going to be released, as Microsoft previously noted that it will be available at the same time when Windows 8 launches.
