  • Windows 11 gets a new WSA update through the Windows Insider Program in July.
  • The update brings networking improvements.
  • The update also includes several fixes and one known issue.

Microsoft is now rolling out a new update (version 2205.40000.14.0) for its Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) on Windows 11. The update is available through the Windows Insider Program and includes several new features and improvements.

According to the announcement, the July 2022 update introduces a new advanced networking feature that enables app access to local network devices for ARM computers. The company also enabled IPv6 and VPN connectivity, enhancing the networking functionalities of the subsystem.

Also, since the subsystem no longer has a different IP from your computer, the IP address has been removed from the “Developer” section.

In addition to the networking improvements, version 2205.40000.14.0 for WSA also brings a lot of fixes, including:

  • Enabled Advanced Networking functionality, including app access to local network devices for ARM
  • VM IP address removed from the Settings app. With Advanced Networking, the VM’s IP address is now the same as the host/computer IP.
  • Fixes for non-resizable app content on maximizing or resizing.
  • Fixes for scrolling with mouse and trackpad in apps.
  • Android May Kernel patches.
  • Android windows marked secure can no longer be screenshotted.
  • Improve web browser launching.
  • Enable doze and app standby while charging for improved power saving.
  • ADB debug prompts redirected to Windows for improved security.
  • Updated to Chromium WebView 101.
  • Fixes for graphics, including app flickering and graphics corruption.
  • Fixes for video playback.
  • AV1 Codec support.
  • Enabled IPv6 and VPN Connectivity.
  • Increased the performance and reliability connecting to virtual WIFI in the container.
  • Video playback apps can now prevent the screen from turning off in Windows.

As for the known issues, this release has only one problem with some VPNs that may not work with Advanced Networking.

The Windows Subsystem for Android update should download and install automatically. However, you can always download it manually from the Library’s page in the Microsoft Store app and by clicking the “Get updates” button.
