Microsoft shares details for the next Xbox One system update due in February, which will include transparent tiles on the dashboard, new Game hubs, improvements on live TV, and a new VIP section.
As we’ve previously seen, the February system update for the game console will include transparent tiles on the dashboard. According to the company, this was a highly requested feature to allow more viewing of the background wallpaper. (Transparent tiles will appear as soon as you set a new background image.)
For TV improvements, Microsoft is adding OneGuide support for the Netherlands. Live TV trending support is coming to four new regions including France, Germany, Brazil, and Mexico. The company is also announcing improvements to IR blasting, with the February update there is more support for AV receivers, set-top-boxes, and there is more support to stream live TV on Android and Windows Phone devices for those countries that have available the live TV USB adapter.
The Game hubs on Xbox One allow users to stay more connected with the games they own. For every game you own, you’ll have a section that highlights friends that also own the game and who ranks top in the community for that particular game, you’ll be able to watch DVR clips and broadcasts. The hubs will include the ability to start the game with party, achievements, or broadcast in snap mode as well. Also a new VIP section that highlights the most interesting Twitch broadcasts.
The update for Xbox One is now rolling out for preview testers, and everyone else will be getting it sometime in February.
