On Windows 11, you can control whether the operating system can recommend actions for specific apps in context menus, and in this guide, I’ll outline the steps to enable or disable these recommendations.
On specific devices, such as Copilot+ PCs, you’ll find features like Click to Do that allow you to perform different actions, and some of them include access to features on specific apps.
For example, if you open the context menu of Click to Do for an image, you may find options to blur the background or erase objects with the Photos app and remove the background using the Paint app.
If you don’t want the system to show different actions, you can control this feature on the “Actions” page in Settings, which is available with the Windows 11 May 2025 update and later releases.
In this guide, I’ll explain the steps to manage the available actions from apps that can appear on Windows 11.
Control actions from apps in context menus on Windows 11
To enable or disable actions from apps for some context menus on Windows 11, follow these steps:
-
Open Settings on Windows 11.
-
Click on Apps.
-
Click the Actions page.
-
(Option 1) Turn on the toggle switch for the app you want the system to recommend, such as Paint and Photos.
Quick tip: You can click on the settings to learn the recommendations.
-
(Option 2) Turn off the toggle switch for the app you don’t want the system to recommend.
Once you complete the steps, Windows 11 will no longer recommend actions from the apps you configured.
It’s worth noting that this setting is only applicable to specific features. You cannot add or remove items in the context menu for File Explorer.
