What’s new on Windows 11 build 27982
These are the most significant changes being rolled out in the latest preview of Windows 11 for the Canary Channel.
Widgets in the Lock Screen and Desktop
Starting with build 27982, Microsoft is replacing the legacy “Weather and more” settings with new “Widgets” settings that let you enable and disable widgets on the Lock Screen. Also, you can now customize the widgets that appear in the Lock Screen.

In addition, the company is rolling out a new design for the Widgets dashboard that separates your widgets from the “Discover” feed using a left navigation bar.

Drag Tray for sharing files with apps
This release also introduces the Drag Tray, a new flyout that appears at the top edge of the screen. It offers different options for sharing a file with different apps. You can also drop the file in the “More” option to open the “Share” interface.
It’s only for individual files. You cannot share a collection of files, a folder, or a container like “.zip” files.

Other fixes and changes
The development team is also pushing several fixes and changes in the preview build that is available on the Canary Channel, including:
- Fixed a crash triggered by IME interactions in Visio.
- Addressed error code 0x0 affecting certain games.
- Fixed repeated explorer.exe crashes after prolonged uptime without rebooting.
- Corrected display issues when editing multiline text boxes in some apps post-update.
Microsoft also notes a known issue where sleep and shutdown aren’t working correctly, and the Start menu may scroll to the top unexpectedly.
Preview build download
To download and install this Windows 11 build, enroll your devices in the Canary Channel through the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section. Once you enroll the computer in the program, you can download the build from the “Windows Update” settings by turning on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option and clicking the “Check for Updates” button.
