- Windows 11 build 29531.1000 rolls out in the Canary Channel.
- This update breaks the Canary Channel into two paths.
- In this preview, you won’t find any new improvements or features.
Microsoft is rolling out Windows 11 build 29531.1000 to the Canary Channel, making the Windows Insider Program even more confusing for users.
According to the official changelog, “Windows 11 Insider 29531.1000 (rs_prerelease)” adds a second path in the Canary Channel that will allow the company validate platform changes at different stages while continuing to deliver new features and experiences.
Microsoft says that if you have a device already enrolled in the Canary Channel, builds in the 28000 series will continue to focus on previewing new features and improvements for version 26H1.
However, starting February 18, 2026, the company will make build 29531.1000 an optional install via the “Optional updates” page, with a focus on platform development rather than features. As a result, if you install this preview, you’ll temporarily lose some features.
This patch will be known as the 29500 series.
Microsoft recommends staying on the 28000 series path, as this helps maintain stability and predictability within each build population.
However, users who want to try the latest platform can switch to the 29500 series.
As a reminder, if you switch paths, you won’t be able to rollback to a build with a lower build number.
According to the company, Windows 11 build 29531.1000 doesn’t include significant improvements. It only includes changes to switch to the new active development build. Microsoft also warns that these builds can be unstable and released with limited information.
