Build 26300.8155 (KB5083822) for Windows 11 26H2 adds haptic feedback effects (Dev)

Windows 11 gets haptic feedback, Xbox mode changes, and startup improvements. Here's all you need to know.

  • Windows 11 build 26300.8155 (KB5083822) is now available in the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider Program with a small set of improvements and fixes.
  • The update introduces new haptic feedback effects, renames Xbox FSE to Xbox mode, and improves app startup.
  • Microsoft is also rolling out Windows 11 build 26220.8079 (KB5079491) in the Beta Channel with virtually the same changes, including new Protected Print Mode indicators.

Microsoft has released Windows 11 build 26300.8155 as the update KB5083822 for version 26H2 through the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider Program. This preview introduces some new features and a small set of improvements and fixes.

In addition, the company is rolling out Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.8148 (KB5079491) in the Beta Channel with similar changes and fixes available in the Dev Channel.

According to the company, the “Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (26300.8155)” ships with haptic feedback effects and renames the Xbox Full Screen Experience to Xbox mode.

Microsoft also notes that this update improves performance when launching apps at startup and rolls out a couple of fixes for signing in to specific apps and for crashes affecting some devices.

Although these changes are part of development for version 26H2, the operating system may still report version 25H2 in Settings for now. Microsoft will update the version number closer to the official release.

Haptic feedback effects

Starting with builds 26300.8155 and 26220.8148, Windows 11 adds haptic feedback effects to compatible input devices during certain actions, such as aligning objects in PowerPoint, window snapping, resizing, or hovering over the “Close” button.

You can always configure haptic effects on Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse > Haptic signals.

Xbox mode

In this release, Microsoft is renaming the Xbox Full Screen Experience to Xbox mode and adding improvements when running it for the first time.

Windows Protected Print Mode changes

Finally, this rollout updates printer settings to display a new icon on printers that support Windows Protected Print Mode. 

This change was previously available only in the Dev Channel. It’s now available in the Beta Channel.

Other changes

The company has also released several other improvements for the operating system:

  • Startup: Microsoft is rolling out performance improvements for launching startup apps after boot.
  • Apps: Fixes sign-in problem due to an internal connection issue on certain apps.
  • System: Fixes crashes that prevented some users from printing.

To download and install these Windows 11 builds, enroll your Devices in the Dev or Beta Channels through the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section. Once you enroll the computer in the program, you can download the build from the “Windows Update” settings by turning on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option and clicking the “Check for Updates” button.
