Microsoft has made available the Windows 11 build 28000.1836 (KB5083768) as the March 2026 update for devices running version 26H1.
According to the changelog, the “2026-04 Security Update (KB5083768) (28000.1836)” includes only several fixes and improvements related to Secure Boot, networking, and Remote Desktop.
It’s worth noting that Windows 11 26H1 is not a version for current devices. Microsoft has explicitly stated that version 26H1 is not an upgrade path for Windows 11 25H2 or earlier releases.
According to the company’s newly published Microsoft Health Dashboard page, version 26H1 is a hardware-optimized release designed to enable next-generation silicon developed in partnership with device manufacturers and silicon partners. This release will be available exclusively as a preinstalled experience on select new devices beginning in early 2026, with capabilities tailored specifically for those platforms.
Microsoft is referring to the new ARM64 PCs, starting with devices powered by the Snapdragon X2 Plus, Elite, and Extreme processors. If you own a computer running on Intel or AMD hardware, Windows 11 26H1 will never be offered to your system.

What’s new on Windows 11 26H1 update KB5083768
Microsoft is currently rolling out these improvements and fixes as part of the April 2026 Security Update for Windows 11 26H1.
- Networking: Improved reliability for SMB compression over QUIC, ensuring compression requests complete more consistently, reducing timeouts, and delivering smoother, more dependable performance.
- Remote Desktop: Enhanced protection against phishing attacks using “.rdp” files by showing all requested connection settings (off by default) before connecting, plus a one‑time security warning the first time an “.rdp” file is opened on a device.
As part of this release, the software giant is rolling out an enhancement that lets some devices display their Secure Boot update status directly in the Windows Security app, complete with badges and notifications that make it easier to understand what’s happening behind the scenes.
Microsoft is also improving how the operating system decides which devices are ready for new Secure Boot certificates. Quality updates now include more accurate targeting data, helping ensure that only devices with a strong track record of successful updates receive the certificates automatically. You can also apply the Secure Boot certificates manually with these instructions.
Also, this update fixes an issue in which some devices could unexpectedly enter BitLocker Recovery after receiving Secure Boot updates.
