Microsoft has released the Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (26220.8925) for version 25H2 via the Beta experience in the Windows Insider Program. This flight introduces various fixes as part of the Windows K2 initiative and a new policy for smart cards.
According to the official notes, Windows 11 build 26220.8925 introduces new touchpad gestures, advances the Start menu overhaul with new customization options, and includes design changes to the Account Control menu.
In addition, File Explorer has been updated with several improvements, and Narrator has also received several improvements.

Touchpad new gestures
Microsoft is expanding Precision Touchpad functionality with new gesture controls on Windows 11.
The update introduces settings to adjust the baseline speed for scrolling and pinch-to-zoom gestures, adds accelerated scrolling that gradually increases scroll speed during continuous scrolling, enables automatic scrolling, and includes optional support for single-finger scrolling.
Some of these improvements depend on newer WinUI 3 and WinAppSDK 1.8 or 2.0 components, so availability may vary across apps until those updates are in place.
Start menu resize option
Microsoft is adding new size options for the Start menu on Windows 11, allowing users to choose between “Small,” “Large,” and “Automatic” layouts. The new settings make it easier to customize how much content appears on screen.
Build 26300.8553 also renames the “Recommended” section to “Recent” across the Start menu and Settings app. In addition, users can now independently show or hide the “Pinned,” “Recent,” and “All” sections.
Other changes include the option to hide the account name and profile picture in Start, and a redesigned Settings page with new customization controls.
Account Control flyout design update
The Account Control flyout available through the Start menu is getting a refresh on Windows 11, with a more modern design and clearer account information.
The updated experience adds a visible subscription badge that makes it easier for users to quickly understand their current account state, view available benefits, and discover upgrade options. The flyout also provides additional details, including account benefits and storage information, giving users a more centralized place to manage their Microsoft account experience.
The redesigned Account Control flyout is part of Microsoft’s broader effort to improve account-related experiences across Windows 11 by making important information easier to find without requiring users to navigate through multiple settings pages.
File Explorer improvements
The company is improving File Explorer with several usability enhancements.
The “Details” view now displays file sizes using appropriate units, such as KB, MB, and GB, instead of showing everything in kilobytes.
The update also adds support for opening folders in a new tab with a middle-click from both the address bar and the “Home” page, making tabbed navigation more consistent.
In addition, screen reader announcements during file move and copy conflict dialogs have been improved to provide better accessibility.
Narrator changes
Microsoft is improving braille support by adding native support for refreshable braille displays that use the HID standard.
Compatible devices can now connect instantly over USB without requiring additional setup, while Bluetooth HID braille displays can be paired directly through Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
The update also enables HID braille displays to work during the initial Windows setup (OOBE), allowing users who are deaf-blind to complete the setup process independently. In addition, Windows 11 now includes more options to customize braille input and output through Settings > Accessibility > Narrator > Braille.
Other changes
In addition, the company fixed an issue that could result in error 0xc0000409 in the Windows Update settings, and improved persistence of mouse control size.
