According to the official notesWindows 11 build 26340.9233 introduces an interface update for the AutoPlay dialog that appears when connecting external storage. What’s new on Windows 11 build 26340.9233 (Experimental)

These are the new features and improvements rolling out in the Experimental channel:

Modernized AutoPlay experience

Microsoft is also giving AutoPlay a much-needed visual refresh in this flight.

The dialog that appears when you connect a phone, camera, removable drive, or other device has been rebuilt with WinUI, bringing the design more in line with the rest of Windows 11 while retaining the familiar AutoPlay actions.

It now supports dark mode, responds better to text scaling and display settings, and moves notifications to the notification center for easier access.

A simpler way to open apps maximized

Windows 11 is also removing a small but annoying bit of friction with a new “Open apps maximized” accessibility setting.

When you enable the feature, the system automatically maximizes apps as they launch, which can be especially useful with screen readers, magnification, tablet use, or simply for anyone who prefers a consistent full-screen workspace.

The option is known as “Open apps maximized,” and it’s available under Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects.

Per-Win32 app privacy permissions

Windows 11 is giving desktop app permissions a welcome privacy upgrade.

Users can now manage camera, microphone, and location access on a per-app basis, instead of relying on a single device-wide setting for traditional desktop applications. That makes it easier to see which apps can access sensitive resources and close access where it isn’t needed.

Your existing permission choices are preserved, so previously allowed apps remain allowed and denied apps stay denied. No settings need to be reset, and existing enterprise policies continue to work as expected.

Microsoft notes that some apps may appear under unexpected names, particularly those using shared system components or browser-hosted experiences, while apps with unverifiable publisher information may appear as “Unsigned,” so only grant access to apps you recognize and trust.

Although the operating system includes the ability to manage permissions per application, it was limited to Microsoft Store apps. It wasn’t possible to enforce the permissions on each individual traditional application. If you wanted to block a traditional app, you needed to block all of them.

Other fixes

In addition, Windows 11 build 26340.9233 also pushes several fixes and improvements.

  • File Explorer: PDF and non-HTML files downloaded from the web can now be previewed automatically in the preview pane.
  • Microsoft Store: Packaged WinUI 3 apps that require elevation can now support in-app purchases through Microsoft’s integrated commerce platform.

  • Input: Fixed an issue where the mouse cursor could disappear in certain apps.
  • Feature flags: Fixed an issue causing the “Flags” to appear empty even when flags were available.
