Knowing that your Xbox One is capable of updating itself automatically does not necessarily mean that the game console will always have the latest patch. Ultimately it’s up to you to make sure your Xbox One is running the latest update, as such you should know how to check the operating system version number to be certain the latest features and patches are installed.
Recently Microsoft released a new Xbox One system update to address many issues with the next-gen game console, and as Larry Hryb, Microsoft’s Major Nelson, noted updating Xbox One is different depending on the features you’re using.
Instructions
Figuring out your Xbox One console’s operating system version:
- Press the Xbox button to return to Home.
- Press the Menu button and select Settings (or select Settings on the Home screen).
- Select System.
- Select Console info.
- The operating system version is the third row down.
Once you know the OS version number, you should visit the Xbox One support page to verify the version number matches the latest number in the support page list.
