Microsoft begins to roll out the July 2016 firmware update for Surface Pro 3 devices. The new firmware comes with a number improvements focus primarily to address various battery issues, as well as some Surface Pen settings and audio driver enhancements.
There have been recent reports from users at the Microsoft forums complaining about the fast battery drainage on their Surface Pro 3 devices, which many believed is caused by defective Simplo batteries.
Surface Pro 3 System Firmware Update – 7/21/2016
The July 2016 firmware update that Microsoft has released for Surface Pro 3 addresses specifically two battery life related issues. The System Aggregator Firmware, increases battery life during sleep mode and improves keyboard stability. And the Surface Pro UEFI, brings improvements to system sleep and hibernation behavior when battery level is low.
However, the changes that Microsoft is listing doesn’t specifically say whether the new firmware fixes the Simplo battery problem with Surface Pro 3 devices.
Alongside the battery life improvements, the July 2016 firmware update brings new improvement to the fingerprint sensor coming out of sleep. There is also a driver update for the Surface Pan settings. And a new Realtek High Definition Audio driver rolls out to improve audio quality for JAWS screen readers.
