On Windows 10, apps you acquire from the Microsoft Store are constantly receiving updates to improve their performance and to integrate new features.
Although updates happen automatically, sometimes you still want to know the exact version number of the app to find out if you’re running the latest version that could indicate that a bug has been fixed or a new feature is now available to you.
While there are a number of ways to check the app version number, it’s not an easy task. However, starting with April 2018 Update, checking the version number of an app becomes easier as Windows 10 now shows this information in the Settings app.
In this guide, you’ll learn the easiest way to check the version of an app you’re currently running.
How to check the version of an app using Settings
In order to identify the version number of an app installed on your PC, do the following:
-
Open Settings.
-
Click on Apps.
-
Click on Apps & features.
-
Select an app, and click the Advanced Options link.
-
See the version number of the app under “Specifications.”
Alternatively, you can quickly get to this page by right-clicking the app in the Start menu, and from the context menu select More, and click on App settings.
If you can’t find the version of the app in the settings page, it’s probably because you’re not running Windows 10 version 1803 (April 2018 Update), which is expected to release April 30, 2018. If you’re not running this update, the version number of the app can be found in the Settings or About page of the app.
