UPDATED 8/30/2023: Microsoft is expanding its Bing Chat AI access to Google Chrome and Safari browsers. Originally, Bing Chat was exclusive to Microsoft Edge on the desktop and through the Bing app on mobile devices. However, that is now changing as the company is gradually rolling out access to the chatbot from other browsers besides Edge, including Chrome and Safari (but Firefox is not yet supported).
At the time of this writing, those with access to the chatbot from other browsers are seeing some limitations, including limits of 2000 characters instead of 4000 available on Microsoft Edge and only five conversations per session instead of 30. As the company continues the rollout, the limitations are expected to be lifted.
Although anyone can now access Bing Chat through Chrome and Safari, the experience will continue to be better integrated on Microsoft Edge as you can also access the chatbot using the sidebar with additional features. However, the change also means that users will no longer need to resource to plugins to bypass the restriction.
In addition, the chatbot experience now includes support for dark mode, which you can access from the three-line button in the top-right corner of the page.
While making the chatbot accessible from other browsers (via WindowsLatest) is a welcome change, it’s not surprising since back in February, Yusuf Mehdi, CVP and Consumer Chief Marketing at Microsoft, said that the company would prioritize access to the experience on its browser, but over time the chatbot will become available on all browsers.
The news comes just days after the company began rolling out visual search support, allowing users to upload images to the platform to learn more details and ask additional questions about the file. Also, Microsoft recently introduced the new Bing Chat Enterprise service that provides the same experience but with the promise of commercial data protection.
Update August 30, 2023: Microsoft quietly makes officially available its Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise on Google Chrome for desktop computers running Windows 11, 10, Linux, or macOS. The company also points out that it plans to bring its chatbot to other browsers on desktop and mobile soon.
