Additionally, you must ensure the computer can start from a USB flash drive, which may require changing the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) settings on the motherboard. However, since firmware settings vary by device, refer to your manufacturer’s support website for more specific details.

Also, since the new version of the operating system is still in development, the official ISO file isn’t available. As a result, you’ll need to use a third-party solution, such as UUP Dump, to create a custom image based on the latest preview of version 26H2.

1. Download Windows 11 26H2 ISO file

To download the Windows 11 26H2 ISO file, follow these steps:

Open the UUP Dump on the 26H2 page to download the latest build for 26300.xxxx build series.
Select the “Windows 11, version 26H2” option to download the latest (x64) ISO file, for example, build 26300.8597 or any newer release.

Quick tip: If you have a Copilot+ PC or a device using an ARM processor, then download the “arm64” architecture. Also, the build number may be different, depending on when you’re reading this guide. As a result, pick the build with the higher number.
Select the language for the installation in the “Language” setting.
Click the Next button.
Select the version 26H2 editions to include in the Windows 11 ISO file.
Click the Next button.
Select the “Download and convert to ISO” option.
Check the “Include updates (Windows converter only)” option.

Open the Rufus website.
Click the link to download the latest version under the “Download” section.
Double-click the rufus.x.xx.exe file to launch the tool.
Select the USB flash drive from the drop-down menu under the “Device” section to create Windows 11 bootable media.
Click the Select button.
Select the Windows 11 26H2 ISO file.
Click the Open button.
Select the “Standard Windows 11 Installation” option under the “Image option” setting.
Select the GPT option under the “Partition scheme” section.
Choose the UEFI (non-CSM) option under the “Target system” section.
Specify a descriptive name for the bootable USB drive in the “Volume label” section—for example, “Windows 11 26H2 Setup”.
Use the default settings for the File system and Cluster size options.
Check the Quick format option.
Check the “Create extended label and icon files” option.
Click the Start button.
Clear all the checked options if the computer is compatible with Windows 11.

Quick note: Check the “Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0” and “Remove requirement for an online Microsoft account” options to create a USB media for unsupported hardware.

3. Clean install Windows 11 26H2 from USB

To perform a clean install of Windows 11 26H2 from a bootable USB media, follow these steps:

Start the PC with the Windows 11 26H2 USB flash drive.
Press any key to continue.
Choose the installation language and format.
Click the Next button.
Choose the keyboard and input method.
Click the Next button.

In my experience, systems that have undergone multiple feature updates tend to accumulate small issues that are difficult to pinpoint, ranging from driver conflicts to leftover settings that affect performance. Starting with a fresh installation avoids many of those problems before they happen.

That said, I wouldn’t recommend wiping your computer just because version 26H2 is available. If you’re already on Windows 11 25H2, the enablement package is the practical choice since it’s quick, keeps everything intact, and delivers the same result. I reserve clean installs for new devices, major hardware upgrades, or computers that have been running the same installation for several years.
