How to enable preload new tab page on Microsoft Edge

You can now enable option to preload new tab page to make the Microsoft Edge experience a little faster, and here's how to complete the task.

Microsoft Edge can now preload the contents of the new tab page for a faster experience. Although, the browser doesn’t include an option to set a custom page to open with a new tab, the default page can include a lot of content, since you can customize it to show a background image, links, and news around the web, and these contents can take some time to load.

If you want to speed up the experience on Windows 10, the Chromium version of Microsoft Edge now includes an option to preload the new tab page to speed up the process.

In this guide, you’ll learn the steps to enable (or disable) the option to preload new tab page on Microsoft Edge.

Enable preload new tab page on Microsoft Edge

To enable new tab to preload the page, use these steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.

  2. Click the Settings and More (three-dotted) button on the top-right corner.

  3. Click on Settings.

  4. Click on New tab page.

  5. Turn on the Preload the new tab page for a faster experience toggle switch.

Once you complete the steps, the browser will preload the new tab page for faster access.

Disable preload new tab page on Microsoft Edge

To prevent new tab from preloading the page, use these steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.

  2. Click the Settings and More (three-dotted) button on the top-right corner.

  3. Click on Settings.

  4. Click on New tab page.

  5. Turn off the Preload the new tab page for a faster experience toggle switch.

After you complete the steps, the Chromium version of Edge will no longer preload the content of the new tab page.

This option appears with version 86, which at the time of this writing is available in the Canary channel. If you don’t see the option, even if you have the latest Canary release, it’ll appear in future updates.
