How to find the MAC address of your network adapter on Windows 10

Each and every network adapter (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) in the world includes a unique hardware identifier, which we know as MAC address (media access control address). This is a 48-bit address (often referred as hardware or physical address)is divided into six octet represented by hexadecimal numbers (e.g., ‎00-0C-29-E4-D8-90) and it’s use for communication at the data link layer.

At one point in time, you’ll need to find the MAC address assigned to your network adapter on your computer. For example, when setting up your Wi-Fi router and you’re setting up network access filtering, or when you have a number of devices connected to a router and you want to find out exactly which device is which.

How to find the MAC address using Command Prompt

To view the MAC address assigned to your Wi-Fi or Ethernet network adapter using Command Prompt, do the following:

  1. Use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu and select Command Prompt.

  2. Type the following command and press Enter:

    ipconfig /all

The output of the command will display all the information available of every network adapter on your computer, including the MAC address information. Simply, scroll down, identify your network adapter, and view the Physical Address, which the MAC address.

How to find the MAC address using the Settings app

To view the MAC address assigned to your Wi-Fi or Ethernet network adapter using the Settings app on Windows 10, do the following:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Click on Network & Internet.

  3. Click on Wi-Fi (or Ethernet).

  4. Click on the network connection.

  5. The MAC address will be listed under the adapter Properties in the Physical address (MAC) field.

How to find the MAC address viewing the adapter settings

To view the MAC address assigned to your Wi-Fi or Ethernet network adapter using Control Panel, do the following:

  1. Open Control Panel.

  2. Click on Network and Sharing Center.

  3. On the left pane, click Change adapter settings.

  4. Double-click the network adapter you want.

  5. Click the Details button, and find the Physical Address, which is the MAC address you’re trying to find.

How to find the MAC address using System Information

To view the MAC address assigned to your Wi-Fi or Ethernet network adapter using System Information, do the following:

  1. Open Start.

  2. Type System Information and press Enter to open the app.

  3. Expand Components.

  4. Expand Network.

  5. Click on Adapter.

Windows 10 will now populate the information of all the network adapters, including from virtual networks, Wi-Fi and Ethernet adapters. Simply identify the adapter and view the MAC Address field.
