How to fix Office 2013 when apps wont start after applying update

Last Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday caused issues for some Office 2013 users by not letting them launch any Office application after applying June’s update.

According to a Microsoft statement the problem only impacts “less than 1%” of the user base for the product, but the number isn’t large enough to be consider a “high priority issue”. And it’s only affecting users using Office 2013 Click-to-Run technology, which basically is a method to stream a virtualized version of the applications instead of installing them directly into the PC.

For those affected, Microsoft is working on a permanent solution. In the meantime, users getting the error message: “We couldn’t start your program. Please try starting it again. If it wont start, try repairing Office from “programs and features” in the Control Panel.”, can fix the problem by simply uninstalling the current Office 2013 suite using this Microsoft’s Fix It patch. Then simply go to your Office account and download the product again.
