Microsoft is now in the process of rolling out the Windows 11 build 22635.4805 as the update KB5050105 in the Beta Channel with various visual improvements, including changes for Snap Layouts, reintroduction of the Gamepad keyboard, and updates for the Settings homepage experience.
This preview is part of the Windows 11 23H2 development, but it’s unclear when these improvements will be available for everyone, including for those computers running version 24H2.
Windows 11 build 22635.4805 (Beta)
These are the most interesting changes rolling out for Windows 11 devices enrolled in the Beta Channel.
Snap Layouts with learning queues
Starting with the update KB5050105, Microsoft is updating the Snap Layouts with inline descriptions to help users understand how to use the feature.
For example, when opening the Snap Layouts menu from the maximize button, you will now notice the “Choose where to move this window” message along with the keyboard shortcut to invoke the feature without having to hover over the window button.
Also, when dragging an app to the top edge of the screen, the Snap Layouts will read the “Drag a window here to arrange it on your screen” message, giving users another hint on how to use the feature.
Gamepad keyboard layout
Although the Gamapad keyboard layout isn’t new, Microsoft had it disabled to fix some issues, but now, the feature is back with this release.
Settings Home with Game Pass advertisement
If you happen to have a Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscription, the new card will now include an option to invite your friends to try the service for free.
Windows Narrator
As part of the Windows Narrator, build 22635.4805 introduces new features for the scan mode, including:
- Jump to list item (I’): This shortcut lets you quickly navigate to specific list items within a document or webpage.
- Beginning and end of the element (Comma (,) and Period(.)): These shortcuts help you quickly jump to the beginning or end of large elements like tables, lists, or landmarks (headings, landmarks).
Other fixes
Microsoft also notes issues with the Start menu, File Explorer, and the Settings app.
