Surface Pro X, Laptop 3, and others picked up September firmware update

Almost every supported Surface device received a firmware update in September, and here are all the details.

Throughout the month of September, Microsoft has pushed updates for many of its Surface devices, including for the Surface Pro X, Surface Pro 6 and Pro 5, Surface Laptop 3 and Laptop 2, Surface Book and Book 2, as well as for Surface Go, Surface Book 3, and Surface Duo.

These updates are available for devices running Windows 10 version 1903 and later versions, and they’re meant to address several problems and improve the stability for battery, networking, and security.

Surface September 2020 update history

Here’s a roundup of all the improvements and fixes available for the devices during September 2020:

Surface Pro X

The update for Surface Pro X was released on September 24, and according to the company, it includes these improvements:

  • Surface Hot Plug – System devices 3.71.139.0: Improves system stability, and addresses issues related to system bugcheck.
  • Surface Light Sensor – System devices 1.37.139.0: Addresses issues related to system bugcheck.
  • Surface Pro X Wi-Fi B/G/N/AC (2×2) Svc – Network adapters 10400.1.22.0: Improves Wi-Fi connection reliability when the device resumes from sleep.
  • Surface Touch Pen Processor – Human Interface Devices 4.212.137.0: Improves pen inking when palm is also on the screen.
  • Surface UEFI – Firmware 3.527.140.0: Improves system stability, and addresses issues related to system bugcheck.
  • Surface Dock 2 Firmware Update Driver Extension 5.5.0.0: Enables Surface Dock 2 update.
  • Qualcomm Advanced Modem Subsystem Device 10400.1.77.0: Enables Mobile Operator self-registration.
  • Qualcomm Bluetooth Radio Driver – Bluetooth 1.0.1080.0: Improves BT connection reliability when the device resumes from sleep.
  • Qualcomm Bluetooth UART Transport Driver – Bluetooth 1.0.1080.0: Improves BT connection reliability when the device resumes from sleep.
  • Qualcomm System Manager Device Extension 10400.1.77.0: Enables Mobile Operator self-registration.
  • Qualcomm Wi-Fi B/G/N/AC (2×2) Svc – Network adapters 1.0.1080.0: Improves Wi-Fi connection reliability when the device resumes from sleep.
  • Snapdragon X24 LTE Modem – Network adapters 1.0.1180.0: Enables Mobile Operator self-registration.

Surface Pro 6

The Surface Pro 6 update was made available on September 15, and according to Microsoft, it ships with these changes:

  • Surface UEFI – Firmware 235.3261.768.0: Improves device stability during hibernate.
  • Surface System Aggregator -Firmware 241.304.139.0: Improves battery Smart Charging reliability.

Surface Pro 5

The Surface Pro 5 firmware update shipped on September 15, and according to Microsoft, these are the change logs:

  • Surface System Aggregator – Firmware: Improves Battery Smart Charging reliability.

Surface Laptop 3

The update for Surface Laptop 3 is dated September 11, and the software giant listed these changes:

  • Surface UEFI – Firmware 7.124.140.0: Addresses issues related to the automatic brightness adjustment at low brightness.
  • Surface System Aggregator – Firmware 14.310.139.0: Improves device stability and battery reliability.
  • Surface Integration Service Device – System devices 6.94.139.0: Improves reliability related to the Surface App experience.
  • Surface Keyboard – Firmware 14.102.139.0: Resolves keystroke repeat issues.

Surface Laptop 2

Surface Laptop 2 also received a firmware update on September 11, and it has these changes:

  • Surface System Aggregator – Firmware: Improves Battery Smart Charging reliability.

The original Surface Laptop received an update on September 11 with these improvements:

  • Surface System Aggregator – Firmware: Improves Battery Smart Charging reliability.

Surface Book 2

The update for Surface Book 2 released on September 15, and according to update history page addresses security issues with the GPU:

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (and 1050): Fixes security vulnerability and improves system stability.

Surface Book

Finally, the original Surface Book received a small update on September 15 to fix one security issue with the GPU:

  • NVIDIA GeForce GPU: Addresses security updates and improves system stability.

The update should download and install automatically, but if you have not received it, then you get it from Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and try to force the download manually.
