  • To uninstall Office on Windows 11, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select “Microsoft Office 365,” “Office Home 2024,” or “Office Home & Business 2024” and click “Uninstall.”
  • To completely remove the Microsoft 365 or Office apps, you can also use the “Get Help” app.
  • Alternatively, you may be able to use the “Recovery Assistant” tool even though the tool has already been deprecated.
  • These methods should also work for older versions, such as Office 2021 and Office 2019.

On Windows 11, there are many reasons you might need to uninstall your Microsoft 365 (Office) apps. For example, you may need to reinstall the suite to fix issues, free up a license to activate Office on another device, or remove the apps before decommissioning a laptop. In other cases, you might switch to a different Office version or move away from the product entirely.

Regardless of the scenario, Windows 11 (and Windows 10) offers multiple ways to completely remove Office. You can use the built-in Settings app for a quick uninstall, or rely on the Get Help app or Microsoft’s Recovery Assistant tool for a deeper cleanup when the standard uninstall fails.

In this guide, I’ll teach you how to uninstall Office on Windows 11, including Office from Microsoft 365, Office 2024, Office 2021, Office 2019, or older versions.

Uninstall Microsoft 365 or Office apps via Settings on Windows 11

To uninstall the Microsoft 365 apps or Office from Windows 11, use these steps:

  1. Open Settings on Windows 11.

  2. Click on Apps.

  3. Click the Installed apps page.

  4. Select the Microsoft Office 365 item or the name of the product installed on your computer, like “Microsoft Office 365 Home,” “Office Home 2024,” or “Office Home & Business 2024.”

Quick note: For Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers, it’s normal to see two entries, including “Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise” and “Microsoft 365.” The first one is the actual software suite, which is the option you want to select. The second entry usually refers to the Microsoft 365 app.
  5. Click the menu button on the right side and select the Uninstall button.

  6. Click the Uninstall button again.

  7. Continue with the on-screen directions (if applicable).

Once you complete the steps, the version of Microsoft Office will be removed from your computer. If you are on Windows 10, the steps are virtually the same.

The Settings app is the quickest way to uninstall the apps. You can use the Get Help app when the uninstall fails, or you want a complete uninstallation without leftovers. The Recovery Assistant is the legacy fallback option.

Uninstall Microsoft 365 or Office apps via Get Help on Windows 11

To the Microsoft 365 apps (or the Microsoft Office apps) with the Get Help app, follow these steps:

  1. Open Start.

  2. Search for Get Help, and click the top result to open the app.

  3. Search for “Uninstall Microsoft Office” in the Get Help search feature.

  4. Click the Yes button to allow the app to run the troubleshooter.

After you complete the steps, a PowerShell window should open a few moments later and run a script to completely uninstall Microsoft 365 or Office from your computer. This process can take more than several minutes.

Uninstall Microsoft 365 or Office apps via Recovery Assistant on Windows 11

Starting March 10, 2026, Microsoft is deprecating the Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA) tool, but you may still be able to download it to uninstall Office 2024, Office 2021, Office 2019, Microsoft 365, and previous versions of the suite of apps completely from your device.

The company now recommends using the Get Help app. The script and uninstall process are virtually the same using the above instructions. However, I’ll keep these instructions for reference.

To use the “Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant” tool to remove Office from Windows 11, use these steps:

  1. Download the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant tool.

  2. Double-click the executable to launch the setup.

  3. Click the Install button.

  4. Click the Agree button to confirm the terms.

  5. Select the version of the product – for example, Office 2021, 2019, or 365.

  6. Click the Next button.

  7. Confirm the Office uninstall by checking the option that you have saved your work.

  8. Click the Next button.

  9. Click the Restart button.

After you complete the steps, Office 2021 or the version of Office with a Microsoft 365 subscription will be removed from the desktop or laptop.

It is important to note that it’s not possible to uninstall individual apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) when using a Microsoft 365 subscription. However, the option is still available for the standalone version of the suite.

You can now move on, or download and reinstall apps using the installer from your Office account, or manually install the standalone version of Office 2024.

Thank you for your feedback!
