Windows 10 gets update KB3140768 bumping PC build to 10586.164

Windows 10 version 1511 gets a new cumulative update (KB3140768) on March 8th, to address issues on Microsoft Edge and to improve hibernation performance.

On March 8th, Microsoft begins the roll out a new cumulative update of the PC version of Windows 10. The update for non-Insider computers is described as KB3140768, and it brings the operating system to build 10586.164 aligning the build number with the Mobile version of Windows 10 also rolling out now for Insider and non-Insiders.

KB3140768 includes a number of improvements for Bluetooth devices, hibernation performance, and it also fixes a few security issues on Microsoft Edge, USB storage driver, .NET Framework, and more.

Here’s what’s new in the cumulative update for Windows 10 Version 1511 released on March 8, 2016:

  • Improved support for Bluetooth, wearables, and apps accessing contacts.
  • Improved reliability in app installation and Narrator.
  • Improved performance for hibernation, content entry in apps, and downloading and installing updates.
  • Fixed issue that didn’t allow login to an Xbox from a PC running Windows 10.
  • Fixed security issue created when attempting to play corrupted content.
  • Fixed security issue that could allow remote code execution while viewing a PDF in Microsoft Edge.
  • Fixed additional issues with .NET Framework, Internet Explorer 11, and networking.
  • Fixed additional security issues with Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer 11, USB storage driver, kernel mode drivers, .NET Framework, graphic fonts, OLE, secondary logon, PDF library, and Adobe Flash Player.

As always, the update will download and install automatically on non-Insider computers via Windows Update, but you can force the system and download KB3140768 manually by going to Settings > Update & security> Windows Update and clicking the Check for updates button.
