When Microsoft first unveiled Windows 11, one of the biggest features was the ability to run Android apps with a new Windows Subsystem for Android. However, the feature did not make it to the final set of features planned for the new version because the company needed more time for testing.
Now, it appears that the integration will arrive sooner than expected, at least to Insiders. As spotted by Windows Latest, the Windows Subsystem for Android has appeared in the Microsoft Store as an app for Windows 11 build 22000 or newer.
The Windows Subsystem for Android provides a virtualization environment to run Android apps without the Google Play Services support. Also, Microsoft is working with Amazon to bring the Appstore to Windows 11 to download and install apps and Intel’s Bridge technology to make possible Android apps to run in the new OS.
You can actually install the integration as an app from the Microsoft Store, but it’s only a placeholder at this time that doesn’t do anything. However, it shows that the feature may arrive as an optional install and not through a feature update, reveals that devices will need at least 8GB of RAM, and confirms that it may come soon to Insiders.
