It’s worth noting that Windows 11 26H1 is not a version for current devices. Microsoft has explicitly stated that version 26H1 is not an upgrade path for Windows 11 25H2 or earlier releases.

According to the company’s newly published Microsoft Health Dashboard page, version 26H1 is a hardware-optimized release designed to enable next-generation silicon developed in partnership with device manufacturers and silicon partners. This release will be available exclusively as a preinstalled experience on select new devices beginning in early 2026, with capabilities tailored specifically for those platforms.

Microsoft is referring to the new ARM64 PCs, starting with devices powered by the Snapdragon X2 Plus, Elite, and Extreme processors. If you own a computer running on Intel or AMD hardware, Windows 11 26H1 will never be offered to your system.

Important: Usually, Microsoft doesn’t release new features immediately. When a feature is announced as part of an update, it usually signals the start of a gradual rollout using the Controlled Feature Rollout (CFR) technology. Availability can vary based on region, hardware, and software configuration. For instance, some features take longer to reach users in Europe due to regulatory requirements.

What’s new on Windows 11 26H1 build 28000.2333

Microsoft is currently rolling out these improvements and fixes as part of the July 2026 Security Update for Windows 11 26H1.

Magnifier improvements

Microsoft is improving the Magnifier experience with several accessibility and performance enhancements. The tool now delivers clearer and more consistent announcements when used alongside a screen reader, making it easier for users to understand actions such as zooming in or out, switching views, enabling or disabling color inversion, and turning Magnifier on or off.

The update also adds support for magnifying permitted protected content, expanding the types of content users can view while using the accessibility feature.

In addition, the company has improved Magnifier’s responsiveness in lens mode, resulting in smoother movement and navigation across the screen.

Task Manager with AI monitoring

The company is also expanding Task Manager’s AI monitoring capabilities with new metrics designed for devices equipped with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU). The update introduces optional “NPU” and “NPU Engine” columns on the “Processes,” “Users,” and “Details” pages, as well as “NPU Dedicated Memory” and “NPU Shared Memory” columns on the “Details” page.

Task Manager now also displays neural engines integrated into the GPU on the “Performance” page, providing a more complete view of AI-related workloads across the system. In addition, a new optional Isolation column on the “Processes” and “Details” pages lets users identify which apps are running inside an “AppContainer” for improved security visibility. These new metrics can be enabled by right-clicking a column header and selecting the desired columns.

Microsoft is also fixing an issue where the “Performance” page could report incorrect CPU speeds for virtual machines after resuming from hibernation, ensuring more accurate performance data.

Camera with multi-app support

Microsoft is enhancing camera management on Windows 11 with new features designed to improve flexibility and reliability. The new Multi-App Camera capability allows multiple applications to access the same camera stream simultaneously, making it easier to use the webcam across different apps at the same time.

The update also introduces Basic Camera mode, which provides a simplified camera experience that can help troubleshoot camera-related issues and improve stability when a webcam is not functioning properly.

For organizations, Microsoft is adding administrative controls that allow network administrators to configure Multi-App Camera and Basic Camera modes through Group Policy. These settings are available under Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Camera > Configure Camera Options, making it easier to manage camera behavior across devices.

Setup with a custom folder name

The Windows 11 setup experience now gives users more control over their account configuration. During the initial setup, you can now specify a custom name for your user profile folder directly on the “Device Name” page.

This change addresses a long-standing limitation where the operating system automatically generated the user folder name based on the account information provided during setup. With the new option, users can choose a preferred folder name from the start, helping avoid unwanted or abbreviated profile folder names.

If you skip this step, the system will continue using the default naming method and complete the setup normally. Custom folder names must still comply with standard Windows naming rules.

Low Latency Profile

Starting with the June 2026 Security Update, Microsoft is rolling out the Low Latency Profile feature, which is a technique that the system uses to spike the CPU to its maximum frequency for one to three seconds to speed up specific tasks, such as launching apps and features like the Start menu.

In the official notes, the company isn’t calling it Low Latency Profile. Instead, it notes that this update accelerates app launch and core shell experiences such as Start menu, Search, and Action Center

Personalization with improved accent color

Microsoft is refining the personalization experience by improving both accent colors and wallpaper handling. The update enhances the accuracy of automatic accent color selection, allowing the system to better match the chosen accent color to the colors in your desktop wallpaper when the feature is enabled.

The company is also addressing wallpaper reliability issues by improving how wallpapers are preserved across restarts and operating system upgrades. These changes include better support for high-resolution images and other scenarios that could previously cause the system to replace a custom wallpaper with a solid background color.

As a result, users should experience fewer instances of their desktop background unexpectedly resetting.

Windows Hello with faster sign-ins

Microsoft is making several improvements to Windows Hello to enhance performance, reliability, and the overall sign-in experience on Windows 11. The update optimizes the Windows Biometric Service (WinBio), helping biometric authentication respond more quickly when a device wakes from Modern Standby.

The company is also addressing authentication issues related to Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security by fixing a problem involving missing secure enrollment metadata, which could previously lead to unexpected sign-in blocks.

In addition, Windows 11 now handles sign-in preferences more efficiently. If facial recognition or fingerprint authentication is configured and available, Windows Hello will automatically present it as the default sign-in option each time you reach the lock screen or sign-in screen, even if you previously used another method. However, if you choose to sign in with your PIN three consecutive times, Windows will continue prioritizing the PIN until you manually switch to a different authentication method.

Other changes

The company has also released security fixes and improvements for the operating system:

  • Windows Search: Search can now find and prioritize files using as few as two characters, making results appear faster with shorter queries.
  • Storage: Dev Drives can now be created and resized in gigabytes (GB), and the Temporary Files page triggers a User Account Control (UAC) prompt only when needed.
  • USB: Improves reliability for displays connected through USB4 docks and hubs and enhances USB device stability with better recovery from hardware-related issues.
  • Sensors: Prevents certain apps from unnecessarily keeping the sensor hub active, reducing power consumption and improving battery life.
  • Human Interface Device (HID): Improves battery efficiency and power management for HID devices, particularly when hardware fails, or apps attempt input activity during standby.
  • Input: Enhances the reliability of the touch keyboard and input switcher while improving performance when accessing clipboard history.
  • Fonts: Updates the Times New Roman font to improve the rendering and readability of Greek and Cyrillic text.
  • Task Scheduler: Column width changes in task lists are now remembered across sessions.
  • Desktop icons: Improves the reliability of loading desktop application shortcuts.
  • Microsoft Store: Enhances download performance, reduces bandwidth usage, and provides clearer error reporting when downloads are blocked by policy settings.
  • Reliability: Improves overall stability across the sign-in and lock screens, File Explorer, touch interactions, and theme changes in Settings.
  • Authentication: Improves Netlogon secure channel connections between domain controllers, ensuring reliable connectivity from member servers to domain controllers configured before 2025.
  • BitLocker: Enhances testing reliability by ensuring that the required files are available for the BitLocker Drive Encryption USB BIOS Logo Test.
